The Tarnos

Today's post features not only an amazing husband & wife photography team, but also one of the sweetest couple's we've met. I went to school with this sweet bride to be and loved that she took some of her engagement photos at our alma mater Dallas Baptist University. The Tarnos did an incredible job capturing these two love birds! Together with Ellie and Penny, their adorable puppies, Ben and Britney enjoy traveling and investing in each of their couples to give them the special day they deserve. Read on to hear more from The Tarnos.

Heirloom: Do you have any morning rituals or things you do to get ready for a long day of editing or shooting?

Britney: Every morning I wake up with the sun. Penny and Ellie (our English Bulldogs) and I share some oatmeal then I spend some quiet time in prayer and picking up the house a bit. When Ben gets up we go on a walk around our small town and then get back and start the day. I have learned from friends and other photographers that it's so important to block off some time to just be still and relax with your loved ones. Balance is key!

Heirloom: Why do you believe photos are so important? What is the heart behind them?

Britney: My passion for photos is the way they take you back to how you felt. I make it my utmost priority to get to know our couples on a super personal level and to be transparent with them so when it comes time to be photographed they are at ease and truly themselves because at that point we're friends and emotionally invested in them and their marriage.  We always want to make sure our couples truly enjoy their time being photographed and is able to be confident and relaxed so when they share these photos for the rest of their lives they not only love the way they look but they LOVE the way they felt in that moment.

Heirloom: How do you balance play & work?

Britney: I struggle with this. When Ben and I first started our business I didn't know how to turn it off. I was all work all the time. Always on. I've found over time that just really making time to find other interests and creative outlets helps a ton! I love to cook and to decorate our home. So when I really need a minute from work I start a new project with the noise...Ben LOVES that ;))

Heirloom: What’s one thing/event/person/place you’ve always wanted to shoot but have yet to do it?

Britney: Oh man the list is endless! That's like asking my favorite FRIENDS episode. Hmm if I were to choose one place to shoot a wedding that I never have it would be on a ranch in Montana. I'm so inspired by peace and open space. Can I pick two? Ha! If I can the other would absolutely be The Nottaway Planation. I'm obsessed with plantation homes! :
