Heirloom: Tell us about what has shaped you as an artist. Your story into becoming a photographer.
Sarah: I've always valued documenting memories from a very young age. I was the girl that took my camera with me to every social event. Going to Walmart to get my pictures developed was something that I looked forward to, and it would seem that nothing has changed (except the Walmart part). Sending in, waiting for and receiving my film scans is still such a exhilarating experience! I started pursuing photography as a business sometime in high-school but it wasn't until last summer when I rebranded my business and started photographing full time do I feel like I've really gotten to run with it and see it grow. Getting to explore and find inspiration that truly makes my heart come alive has been such a great blessing! I started to incorporate film photography into my business last fall and I haven't looked back! It's been such a catalyst for creative exploration! My journey as an artist has been shaped by the desire to create something meaningful and intentional.
Heirloom: What are you inspired by?
Sarah: From the beginning of my journey to the present, my heart is stirred when I get to bless and serve others by using my gifts and resources the Lord has provided me! That is what truly makes my heart come alive and what gets me pumped to pursue excellence in my craft.
Heirloom: Have you always lived in College Station?
Sarah: I am a Bryan/College Station local. Because I already knew that photography was what I wanted to do when I graduated high school, I simply skipped college and pursued other ways of growth and education for my business. I wouldn't trade any of my experiences!
Heirloom: Tell us about one of your favorite events you’ve gotten to photograph. What made it your favorite?
Sarah: Oh man, that's a hard question! This past spring I got to take one of my best friend's engagement photos in NYC and that was such a neat experience for me- I really treasure those few days and getting to capture them as a couple!
Heirloom: Tell us about married life! :) How do you balance work & family? And what’s your favorite thing about being married?
Sarah: Married life is THE BEST. Seriously, I am the biggest fan! It's by far been the best years of my life. Living life with Samuel is so great and such a joyful experience! I simply love that you get to create a meaningful life with someone that you're crazy about and that loves you and all your mess. Someone that you can be 100% yourself with and that you don't have to say "goodbye" to every night. Someone to partner with you in all of life's adventures. Someone that will stir you on to live intentionally with Jesus each day and to celebrate the small things!
This past year has been a huge breakthrough and refining year of implementing healthy boundaries with work and home life. I feel like I've still got so far to go, but I've learned so much! It's definitely difficult. You MUST be intentional, or it won't get any better or healthier for you or your family. One thing that helps me keep things balanced is having office hours. Let's be honest, I don't always keep them perfectly, but that is the exception, not the norm.
