Happy April Fools Day! Instead of jokes and pranks we simply bring you the lovely Maria of Maxit Flower Design, to brighten your day. Maria is deeply in love with everything flowers and her passion for creating the perfect arrangement is evident in all she does. Today she shares her love for coffee and obsession with her work. You are truly going to enjoy getting to know her.
Heirloom: Do you have any morning rituals or things you do to get ready for a long day of making beautiful arrangements?
Maria: I’m a really simple person… there are no particular routines but there are certain elements that are a must... good music, a sharp knife and clippers, and a strong cup of coffee. I love working early in the morning, it makes me feel like I can take on anything that comes my way if I just get started early. Then that glass of wine feels so much rewarding at the end of the day.
Heirloom: How do you balance work & play?
Maria: I don’t. I love what I do and am obsessed. I just find play within work, through styled shoots, meeting other business owners, and networking with fun people.
Heirloom: How did you get into floral design?
Maria: A random turn of events occurred that prompted me to visit a local flower shop. I began to day dream of what it would be like to work in such a gorgeous space. I applied, I started, but yet still believed it would be for a short while until I found my next corporate job, but that never happened. I truly fell madly in love with everything flowers. It was a love affair that still continues.
Heirloom: What’s the hardest part of working with florals?
Maria: Their fragility and the challenges that this quality presents.
"I am following nature without being able to grasp her. I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers"
- Claude Monet
