Not only do we have some beautiful wedding inspiration to share with you today but one of the loveliest photographer duos we've seen! We are attracted to their romantic & timeless images but also their hearts. Abbey & Andrea are the principle photographers behind Loft Photography. We will be sharing each of their stories in the coming weeks, today we begin with Andrea's.
Heirloom: Do you have any morning rituals or things you do to get ready for a long day of editing or shooting?
Andrea: My husband and I have a bit of a routine in the mornings, and if it doesn't happen, my entire day just feels off! Josh mans the french press while I make us a hearty breakfast (my favorite meal of the day), we listen to worship music and read devotionals, and then we give our husky/shepherd pup some love.
Heirloom: Tell us about your journey into photography?
Andrea: I'll spare all the details and grace you all with the short story! I discovered my love for photography while searching for my own wedding photographer in 2009. I was working for a non-profit at the time and Abbey was also working for a non-profit and running her own portrait photography business. Abbey decided she wanted to start photographing weddings, but didn't want to tackle them by herself, so she took me under wing to teach me everything she knew about photography. We quickly realized that what we had going was a good thing, and started our journey to form our partnership, Loft Photography LLC, in the summer of 2011.
Heirloom: What intrigues you most about using light in photography?
Andrea: Natural, romantic light is my greatest love. I adore the way in which film handles and captures dynamic light, and I am smitten with different lighting situations at various times of day and how they can create a completely different emotion in an image (i.e. ethereal, moody, airy, warm, cool, etc.).
Heirloom: What’s one thing/event/person/place you’ve always wanted to shoot but have yet to do it?
Andrea: I crave the opportunity to shoot a wedding or an elopement along the coast in Italy, or in the south of France...and then make a vacation out of it with my hubs, of course!
Heirloom: What’s one thing you would like brides to know about shooting in film?
Andrea: Film is magical, romantic, and the raw color you achieve with it is unbelievable. It's an exciting challenge and helps me to be more disciplined in my shooting, posing, and location scouting; it also enables me to shoot in lighting situations that I would've been scared to tackle shooting digitally. BUT, it is a slow process, takes lots of patience, and Connie (our Contax 645) makes me work really hard to get her to focus. :)
