"We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain," -Hebrews 6:19
Images have such power to generate and shape emotions. Koby & Terilyn Brown of Archetype Photography do just that in this sailing themed shoot. It calls all manner of scenes to the mind from adventures on the high sea to an anchor holding you steady against the waves and billows of life. In many ways love and marriage encompass both the height & excitement of new adventures as well as a constant companion to half your burdens in life. Koby & Terilyn capture perfectly excitement and permanence as they share a little of their story with us today.
Heirloom: Do you have a set morning routine? If so, would you mind sharing what a typical morning looks like for you and how that sets you up for success.
Terilyn: Yoga on the beach, followed by breakfast tea and an hour of quiet meditation... I wish. Actually, my mornings are more of a series of small and random failures than a set up for success. I do start the day with a cup of hot tea (or three), that part was true. Can we talk about my nighttime routine instead? I’m not much of a morning person... thank goodness sunrise weddings have not gained a real foothold in the wedding industry.
Heirloom: Tell us your story. How did you discover your love for photography?
Terilyn: For us, photography is about passion. The need to craft memories into something emotionally tangible. It’s about freedom to go where the wind blows, and live without boundaries. It’s about risk and sacrifice. It’s about relationships and love. It’s a lot about love. It’s about seeing, really seeing. With your soul. It’s about light and the absence of light.
Heirloom: You have been married for a little while now, what do you love most about married life? How has being married changed you and your photography?
Terilyn: Seventeen years... I like to tell people we got married when we were 12 so they have a harder time guessing how old we are now – I don’t feel like I am old enough to have been married that long. Time flies when you’re having fun. What do I love most about married life? Travel, adventure, facing challenges and celebrating successes with my best friend!
The magic really started to happen for our photography when we sat down together in 2010 and discovered we both want the same thing out of life and more importantly, that standing together we were brave enough to reach for it.
Heirloom: Where do you look for inspiration?
Terilyn: Travel... new landscapes, places and faces... we both have a strong wanderlust for adventure. Literature... classical poetry... I'm very much inspired by the pictures painted in my head by literary artists. Music is also a huge inspiration... it inspires mood, movement, even colors. And we can’t forget nature! God gave us a beautiful world in which to experience life.
Heirloom: What is your favorite aspect of working with couples?
Terilyn: We are in love with love! Meeting new people who are in love and planning a life together is always exciting.
